CNC Operator Job Description

Overview

A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining computer-controlled machines that fabricate parts and components to precise specifications. They interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to set up and operate CNC machines, ensuring quality and efficiency in production.

Responsibilities

• Machine Setup:
  • Set up CNC machines according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Load and unload raw materials onto machines.
  • Adjust machine settings to achieve desired tolerances and finishes.
• Machine Operation:
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure accurate and efficient production.
  • Detect and troubleshoot machine malfunctions.
  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines to prevent downtime.
• Quality Control:
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Identify and report any defects or inconsistencies.
• Documentation:
  • Complete necessary paperwork, including production records, quality inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
• Safety:
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in CNC machine operation, preferably with experience in [specific CNC machine types, e.g., lathes, mills].
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical or vocational training in CNC machining.
• Experience with programming CNC machines using CAM software.
• Knowledge of various machining processes and tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
