Combustion Turbine Operator

The Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) - Osceola Generating Station location is looking for Combustion Turbine Operators to join the Electric and Water Production team.

We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable with great communication skills who can be responsible for all activities associated with commissioning, startup, shutdown and operation of the Combined Cycle and IRP Simple Cycle facilities including related auxiliary systems.

In this role, you will work both as control room and system operators responsible for the detailed operation of the respective equipment. Operations personnel will be expected to be qualified as a mechanic, electrician or instrumentation technician at a level commiserate to a Mechanical Technician III or higher and work as such on a periodic basis during the year.

The Ideal Candidate will have:
High school diploma or GED;
Broad shop training (equivalent to high school plus 4 years apprenticeship);
Minimum of four and a half (4.5) years' experience of power plant operations or nine (9) years of industrial process control operations experience;
GE 7FA experience preferred or Combined Cycle Operations Preferred
Mechanical skills commiserate to a Mechanical, I&C, or Electric Technician III or higher;

Salary Range: $35.88 per hour (est. $74,630)

Job Purpose:
All activities associated with commissioning, startup, shutdown and operation of the Combined Cycle and IRP Simple Cycle facilities including related auxiliary systems. Operators will work both as control room and system operators responsible for the detailed operation of the respective equipment. Operations personnel will be expected to be qualified as a mechanic, electrician or instrumentation technician at a level commiserate to a Mechanical Technician III or higher and work as such on a periodic basis during the year.

Primary Functions:
· Safely and effectively operate combined cycle and simple cycle combustion plant systems within established parameters; this includes startups, shutdowns, and troubleshooting;Primary Functions:

· Effectively operate and control equipment through the use of multiple plant coordinated control systems including Ovation and GE MK6e;

· Conduct routine equipment inspection rounds and document/report the status of established checkpoints;

· Create, review, and update (when necessary) reports and documents to include: operations manuals, procedures, daily availability reports shift activities, performance of systems, JHAs (Job Hazard Analyses), trouble reports, etc.;

· Routinely monitor of process status and performance including sampling of gas and liquid streams;

· Conduct routine housekeeping throughout the Combined Cycle facility;

· Troubleshoot operational systems including problem identification, evaluation of alternative solutions and implementation of corrective action;

· Provide regular communication to OUC system operations (e.g. Dispatch, Distribution Control Center) regarding NERC/FERC standards compliance and unit operating releases;

· Cross-train in several positions and rotate routinely through these assignments;

· Lead, cross-train, and direct other operators and technicians when assigned;

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:
· Working knowledge of, but not limited to, the following:

o Power plant or industrial process control operations (Combined Cycle operations preferred);

o General industrial and power plant safety practices;

o Control room and field (outside rounds) operations/monitoring;

o Interpretation of technical drawings to include: industrial prints, manuals, piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), etc.;

o Distributive control systems (Ovation and MK6e preferred);

o Equipment to include various lifts, safety equipment, tools, etc.

o Practices and processes of operations in an industrial, military, or similar heavy equipment environment;

· Familiarity with the following:

o Continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS)

· Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

· Three-way communication standards;

· Abilities to include:

o communicate in an understandable voice with all levels of plant personnel, both verbally and on in-plant radio and page systems;

o troubleshooting;

Working Conditions:
This job involves very frequent exposure to heights and confined areas, extreme weather, and insects. This job involves frequent exposure to excessive noise. Incumbents must be willing to work extended hours when required including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Physical Requirements:
This job consists of Very Frequent standing, walking, speaking and hearing. Detailed inspection, reading, and editing are very frequently required. This job consists of Frequent sitting, pushing, reaching over head, climbing (Ladders, stairs, hills), and may involve frequent writing. This job consists of Occasional lifting up to forty (40) lbs, kneeling and crawling, and may involve occasional pushing, pulling, and/or digging.
