Job Description

XMSTART is looking to add an experienced and strategic full-time Mission Systems Engineer to our team in Springfield, VA . This position is 100% Onsite and in support of Space Systems Protection programs, providing SETA (Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory) services to our government customer.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

• Oversee integration of mission protection functions/capabilities into production systems.
• Analyze integrated master schedules and identify operational needs across short- and long-term horizons.
• Apply engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, develop, or evaluate mission-critical systems.
• Provide end-to-end system engineering across the entire lifecycle, from concept development to operational maintenance.
• Develop and review engineering and technical analyses, reports, and system architecture documentation.
• Support readiness review processes and advocate for new and upgraded capabilities.
• Participate in requirements specification and interface control documentation (ICD) development and review processes.
• Help develop standards, utilities, and procedures for risk, change, issue, and information management.
• Deliver technical alternatives and recommendations to government stakeholders, identifying risk, impact, and potential improvements.
• Represent the government in forums and working groups to streamline capability delivery and standardize integration.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Systems Engineer.
• Strong knowledge of satellite constellations, spacecraft orbits, and ground system operations.
• Program lifecycle experience from concept through deployment and sustainment.
• Experience in system architecture development, requirements analysis, interface documentation, and V&V.
• Familiarity with NRO systems and missions.
• Ability to work independently and within teams, including contractors, SETA, FFRDC, and government personnel.
• Self-motivated with strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Effective at consensus building and cross-functional coordination.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

• Real-time spacecraft operations experience (spacecraft operator or vehicle engineer).
• Experience using Jira and Confluence.
• Familiarity with MBSE/Digital Engineering tools (SysML/UML) .
• Understanding of Agile development methodologies and cloud technologies .
• Knowledge of government acquisition and contracting processes.
• Experience supporting Contract Officer Technical Representatives (COTRs) .
• Preferred experience with Kubernetes .
• Preferred certification in AWS .

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• Master’s degree in a STEM field preferred (with 1+ year of relevant experience).

Security Clearance Requirements:

• Top Secret/SCI with CI Polygraph required.
